Ranchi Announces Rs 28 Cr Waste Management Initiative

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has launched an ambitious waste management initiative, setting up eight new facilities to improve waste segregation and recycling. Located at Madhukam, ITI Bus Stand, Harmu, Kantatoli, Karbala, Jagannath, Hatia, and Bada Ghagra, these units will sort recyclable materials, and a refuse-derived fuel center will process plastics, metals, and glass for reuse.

The project, which is estimated to cost around Rs 28 crore, aims to improve waste processing efficiency, particularly for wet waste, which is currently mixed with non-organic materials. Once the units are operational, they will deliver purified organic waste to the CBG plant in Jhiri, where it will be processed into compressed biogas.

RMC officials highlighted that the city currently generates 750 tonnes of waste daily, with 450 tonnes being wet waste. The new facilities are expected to process 100 tonnes of sorted wet waste daily. Construction of these units is expected to be completed within four to six months.
