Jal Shakti ministry completes construction of 317 check dams

The Minor Irrigation Department of the Ministry of Jal Shakti has finished the construction of 317 check dams and the renovation of 218 water ponds under the third phase of the Bundelkhand package.

The building of check dams and water-filled ponds has drastically changed the picture of the Bundelkhand region.

The agriculture yield has been enhanced in the region due to the construction of new check dams. Not only this, but the green cover is also rising around the ponds. Water is being made available to farmers for irrigation purposes, and the renovated ponds are quenching the animals' thirst.

These rain harvesting structures and the check dam together have also managed to increase the groundwater table benefitting crop intensification. The Ministry of Jal Shakti is working hard to finish the work of the third phase of the Bundelkhand package.

The Yogi Adityanath government started a campaign for drinking and irrigation water in Bundelkhand. The department has finished the construction of 317 check dams under the scheme against the target of 328. The department has also renovated 218 ponds against the target of 238. While the work on the pending 20 ponds is also being carried out without any delay.

The construction of check dams serves as a lifesaver in drought-prone regions by preventing soil erosion. The problem of drinking water has also reduced along with the irrigation problem with the construction of check dams. Now the government is designing a plan to plant trees around these check dams.

The Yogi government strives to present Bundelkhand as a model before. The renovation work of check dams and ponds is being done at a fast pace in all seven districts of Bundelkhand to reach the goal. The department is also working on a plan to construct more new check dams here.
