Gurugram to Lay 20km water pipeline for growing population

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to employ a consultant to create a detailed project report for a 20km pipeline along the Dwarka Expressway. This pipeline aims to provide water to currently underserved city areas and accommodate the expected population growth over the next two decades. The projected ₹125 crore initiative, approved by Haryana's chief minister, will bolster water supply to sectors along the expressway, Palam Vihar, Sector 23, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar, and areas around CyberHub that often face water scarcity during summers.

The proposed pipeline, with a capacity of 200 million litres per day (MLD), is designed to serve around 1 to 1.5 million people in the future. Currently, around 128MLD is supplied to these areas against a demand of 153MLD. The pipeline's introduction will increase the supply to 328MLD and serve an additional one million residents.

The project includes internal loops and connections with existing pipelines, enhancing its efficiency. Notably, the network can be controlled through a computerized system. This initiative aligns with the city's growth, prioritizing long-term infrastructure that meets both current and future demands.
