Jammu civic body signs MoU with SMVDU for developmental projects

The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) to work as a foundation for developing landscape projects across the city and is envisioned at transforming Jammu into a smart city under the Smart City Mission.

The officials said that the collaboration areas described in the five-year agreement include landscape planning and design.

Avny Lavasa, JMC Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Jammu smart city, and Nagendra Singh Jamwal, SMVDU registrar, inked the MoU on Friday.

The highly-experienced school of architecture and landscape design faculty of the university would render services concerning site appraisal and suitability, irrigation design, landform and grading, surface drainage design and water management, site planning, open space design -- hard and soft areas -- planting design, garden furniture design, landscape structures, and features, illumination design, graphic design, and signage, periodic inspection, tendering services, and evaluation activity, according to the MoU.

On the other hand, the JMC would give the detailed requirements for the project, property lease or ownership documents, where applicable, site plan to a proper scale, showing boundaries, contours at proper intervals, existing physical features, and utility lines and such lines to which the recommended service can be connected.

Lavasa said that under the Smart City Mission, JMC has embarked upon the development of the public space of Jammu by way of beautification and enhanced aesthetic looks while keeping up with the city's unique identity.

Under the Smart City Plan (SCP) approved by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), a broad range of projects for area-based landscape development of Jammu city is being executed.
