Govt allots Rs 181 cr to Dharamshala, Shimla under smart city goal

In the last three years, the central government has provided Rs 181 crore to Shimla and Dharamshala under smart city projects, according to State Minister of Housing and Urban (MoHUA) Affairs Suresh Bhardwaj.

On the third day of the ongoing Monsoon session, the minister informed the House in a written response to Congress Kinnaur legislator Jagat Singh Negi that Shimla had received Rs 126 crore and Dharamsala Rs 55 crore from the Centre under the smart city scheme in the previous three years until June 30.

Bhardwaj also mentioned that 117 projects totalling Rs 451.17 crore have either been completed, are in the process of being completed, or have had tenders issued for them.

14 projects in Shimla have been completed, including installation of e-toilets in important public places for a total of Rs 24.39 crore.

Six e-toilets, each costing Rs 11 lakh, have been installed at the old bus stand near Ritz, Talland bus stop, Vikas Nagar bus stop, Five Benches in Jakhoo, and New Power House in Totu, he said.

He said 73 projects worth Rs 216.18 crore are being implemented, with 30 tenders worth Rs 210.60 crore floated.

In Dharamshala, work on several projects worth Rs 41.94 crore has been completed, projects worth Rs 73.88 crore is underway, and the tender process for several projects worth Rs 114.46 crore is underway, according to the minister.
