Swachh Survekshan 2021: Indore bags first spot for 5th time in a row

President Ram Nath Kovind presented the Swachh Survekshan 2021 award to the cities for being clean and garbage-free in Swachh Survekshan 2021 at an event (Swachh Amrit Mahotsav) prepared by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in Delhi.

To acclaim the achievements of top-performing states & cities in making India clean, 4,320 cities have been assessed across parameters.

Indore has presently been voted as the cleanest in India for the fifth time in a row. President Ram Nath Kovind awarded Surat (Gujarat) and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) for being India's second and third cleanest cities, respectively.

The centre granted Varanasi the first spot in the cleanest Ganga town category in the annual cleanliness survey 2021.

Another significant winner in the yearly cleanliness survey was Chhattisgarh since it has been ranked as the cleanest state in India.

As part of Swachh Survekshan 2021, a new category of awards named 'Prerak DAUUR Samman' was included, which has a total of five added sub-categories which are Divya (platinum), Anupam (Gold), Ujjawal (Silver), Udit (Bronze), and aaRohi (Aspiring).

While the Swachh Bharat Mission has been changing India's urban landscape for the last seven years. 12 Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge awards, 152 awards for garbage-free cities 129 Swachh Survekshan Awards, were awarded at Swachh Amrit Mahotsav 2021.
