Govt identifies 9 high-impact infra projects under Gati Shakti

As the Centre aims for the rapid ramp-up of the Indian infrastructure (infra) and logistics sector, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) identify nine high-impact infrastructure projects of Rs 1,913 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti-National Master Plan (NMP).

The high-impact projects to be closely monitored in 2022-23.

According to a senior official, they have identified 101 projects with a total estimated cost of Rs 62,627 crore under the Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP). These are expected to be completed by 2024 and the target set for the nine high-impact projects is this fiscal year.

An official part of the Gati Shakti network planning group (NPG), overseeing project management for the integrated infrastructure development program, stated that two of these nine projects which are the Port of Visakhapatnam- an extension of container terminals and New Mangalore Port- mechanisation of container terminal have already been completed.

Other high-impact projects in the pipeline have reached advanced stages of completion. Almost half of the total identified projects are to be executed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Five of the identified projects shall be executed by major ports with an estimated cost of Rs 900 crore. The others will be completed by the Inland Waterways Authority of India.

Out of the 101 Gati Shakti pipeline projects, seven projects worth Rs 2,369 crore, have been completed so far. The government expedited high-impact projects of Rs 1,913 crore under PM Gati Shakti.
