Vistadome coach to provide panoramic view on Mumbai-Pune route

Mumbai-Pune route passengers will now have a scenic and breathtaking view of the ghats through the Vistadome coach. The Indian Railways will be introducing a Vistadome coach on the outstation train Deccan Express that runs between the two cities daily.

The Vistadome tourist coach is a 40 seater 360-degree view coach that is glass-roofed. The glass roof allows passengers to enjoy the outside view. The coaches have wide window panes and 360 degrees rotatable seats to provide passengers with a more enjoyable sightseeing experience.

The coaches have various facilities such as 12 LCD television screens for entertainment, a mini-fridge, automated sliding compartment doors, an oven, a juicer grinder, and toilets fitted with ceramic tiles. The charge structure of the coach is yet to be decided in the Deccan Express but will be costlier than the fare of a regular ticket.

The coach was introduced on the Mumbai-Goa route in 2017 for passengers to get a scenic view of the Western Ghat in the Jan Shatabdi Express.

Chief PRO of Central Railway, Shivaji Sutar said that the rake of Dadar-Madgaon express will be shifted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and will be combined with the rake of Deccan Express that operates between CSMT and Pune for the scenic view.

To control the spread of coronavirus, the Deccan Express is not running currently due to the travel restrictions in Maharashtra.

Passenger associations said that the Vistadome coach will become popular on the railway route and have appreciated the move.
