Railway Ministry prepares DPR for Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train project

The Ministry of Railways is preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for the Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train project with six other high-speed rail corridors (HSRC).

According to the plan, the proposed bullet train will shorten the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to three and a half hours.

Presently, it takes nearly 12 hours to cover the 766 km distance.

On Saturday, Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Danve told the media that the detailed project report (DPR) of the high-speed connectivity project would be made by February-end.

They have proposed this superfast train along with the Samruddhi Highway project. They have the benefit of already having 70% land in their ownership.They are just required to procure 30% of land from private parties.

The report will be made additionally by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is also operating on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project.

Nitin Gadkari told the media the bullet train would render another good alternative for transportation between the two cities.

From Nagpur to Igatpuri, the land will not have to be procured since the train would work adjacent to Samruddhi Highway. From Igatpuri to Mumbai, the land will have to be procured.

The high-speed rail network is expected to move from Wardha, Jalna, Shirdi, Nashik, Shahapur before reaching Mumbai.

Besides the Mumbai-Nagpur project, other high-speed rail corridors include Delhi-Amritsar, Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru, Delhi-Varanasi, Mumbai-Hyderabad, Delhi-Ahmedabad, and Varanasi-Howrah.
