Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated extension of the Delhi Metro's Airport Line which now terminates at Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station. The new Dwarka metro station will facilitate people in reaching the India international convention and expo centre named ‘Yashobhoomi’. The high-speed corridor has been extended from Dwarka to Yashobhoomi station which has been built underground using the conventional cut-and-cover technology. For the first time in Delhi Metro, the box-pushing method was used to construct a Metro tunnel. Earlier, this technology was used to construct pedestrian subways. With this section, the total length of the airport express line, with seven metro stations, from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 is 24.9 km. With the opening of this section, the Delhi Metro network has now become 393 km long with 288 stations. In a related development, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has increased the speed of India’s fastest Metro corridor airport express line from 90 to 120 kmph.
