Metro 10 to have double-decker design

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has taken significant steps towards the realization of a new Metro 10 line, spanning approximately 10 kilometers in length. This metro project aims to establish direct connectivity between Metro 4 and Mira Road, enhancing transportation links within the region. Notably, the Metro 10 line will feature a double-decker design, with its tracks running above an elevated road planned between Gaimukh and the Fountain Hotel. The entire 9.20-kilometer route will commence at Gaimukh, where Metro 4A concludes, and culminate at Mira Gaon.

A senior MMRDA official revealed, "We have already appointed a consortium of Systra-DB Engineering as the consultants, and the process is underway to appoint a consultant for obtaining environmental clearance." MMRDA is aiming to kickstart the tendering process later this year, with construction slated to commence in 2024, contingent on the prompt resolution of environmental clearance issues. The project is expected to be completed within a 36-month timeframe.

The Metro 10 project encompasses a 9.2-kilometer stretch, including approximately 4 kilometers of elevated track between Gaimukh and the Fountain Hotel, situated on National Highway 8. The decision to adopt a double-decker design is prompted by the inability to widen the road at Ghodbunder. Consequently, the metro will be constructed above the elevated road, elevated to a minimum height of 20 meters from ground level. This innovative approach is set to bring significant advancements to the region's transportation infrastructure.
