L&T became the lowest bidder of an 8 km viaduct in Gujarat

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) have emerged as the lowest bidder for designing and constructing an 8 km viaduct in Gujarat and Vadodara station for India's first bullet train project.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is responsible for the implementation of the high-speed rail corridor. It opened the financial bids for the designing and constructing viaduct, including the high-speed rail station at Vadodara station.

NHSRCL said that the financial bids of the two qualified bidders were opened, and L&T emerged as the lowest bidder. The technical bids were opened on 5 October 2021.

India's first full-span pre-stressed concrete (PSC) box girder of 40 m was erected in a casting yard in Navsari district, Gujarat. It weighs around 970 mt, with 42 million tonnes of steel cast in a single piece without a construction joint on 1 November.

It is the heaviest PSC box girder in the constructor sector of India. To increase the pace of viaduct construction for the first high-speed bullet train corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, NHSRCL has adopted the full-span launching method. The built equipment of L&T was used to launch the girder, designed using the state-of-the-art element.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor of 508 km will operate at 320 km per hour speed, covering Maharashtra, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The total distance will be covered within two to three hours, covering 12 stations along the route.
