GMDA Plans New Bus Terminal near Millennium Metro Station

The GMDA is reportedly planning to develop a new bus terminal in Sector 29 to enhance the city's public transport infrastructure and improve connectivity for commuters. The metropolitan authority is expected to discuss the matter in an upcoming meeting with the Haryana chief secretary this week.

It has been revealed that approximately three acres of land have been identified for the project. However, the land is currently held by the transport department, and the GMDA is seeking its transfer in order to proceed with the plan. If the GMDA's proposal is approved, the bus terminal will be located near the Millennium City Centre metro station, aiming to provide daily commuters with convenient access between buses and the metro.

Furthermore, plans are underway to build an additional metro station near the current one as part of the city's metro expansion. The proposed bus terminal will have the capacity to accommodate up to 50 buses at a time and will also feature charging stations to support the operation of e-buses.

A senior official from the GMDA mentioned that the authority has requested the land transfer from the transport department, as it is no longer responsible for city bus services. The official stated, "Since the Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) is now managing the city's bus services, the land designated for city bus operations should be transferred to GMDA."

With the proposed rapid rail station expected to be located at Rajiv Chowk, the GMDA aims to develop the depot-cum-terminal as an integrated transit hub. Previously, the transport department had planned a bus stand at Rajiv Chowk, but the project has been delayed for over a decade. Additionally, there are plans to convert the existing bus depot in Sector 10 into an integrated terminal.

The proposed terminal will be situated next to the upcoming metro station to ensure a smooth transfer of passengers. GMDA had initially planned to establish 15 such terminals but faced setbacks due to land constraints.

Currently, the city operates two bus depots in Sector 10 and Sector 52-53, which cater to the needs of the existing fleet of 200 buses. The mobility plan for the city recommends the establishment of nine additional city bus depots to support the operation of city buses.
