Delhi metro?s Tughlakabad station connects silver and violet lines

According to reports, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is currently developing the Tughlakabad Metro station, aiming to provide multi-mode facilities and serve as a crucial interchange hub connecting the upcoming Silver Line and the Violet Line.

Part of the Delhi Metro's phase 4 expansion, the 23.62 km priority corridor between Aerocity and Tughlakabad will include 15 stations, comprising four elevated and eleven underground stations.

The Silver Line, which is a key component of this expansion, will feature interchange stations at Aerocity (linked with the Airport Express Line), Chattarpur (Yellow Line), Saket G-Block (future Brown Line), and Tughlakabad (Violet Line).

Anuj Dayal, the Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications at DMRC, shared that the new Tughlakabad station is designed as a four-level underground structure. The platform will be at the lowest level, approximately 23 m deep, followed by the concourse and a dedicated parking floor above it. The station's roof will be at ground level.

While several Metro stations offer parking facilities, only the Dhansa Bus Stand station on the Grey Line has an underground parking facility, accommodating around 110 vehicles. DMRC officials revealed that Tughlakabad station's parking space will also be built at a depth of 23 m.

To enhance connectivity, DMRC plans to construct a short subway linking the Silver Line platforms at Tughlakabad with the building housing the elevated Violet Line platforms. Dayal explained that this subway, less than 100m long, will facilitate quick transit between the two lines within the paid area.

The completion of the Silver Line is anticipated by March 2026, offering direct airport connectivity for residents of Tughlakabad, Jasola, Sarita Vihar, and Badarpur. Other corridors of the Phase IV project include R.K Ashram to Janakpuri (West) and Mukundpur to Maujpur.

With an extensive network covering approximately 392.44 km and 288 stations, the Delhi Metro has played a pivotal role in transforming mass urban transportation not only in the National Capital Region but throughout the country. The modern Metro system has expanded its reach beyond Delhi to connect areas such as NOIDA, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh, and Ballabhgarh.
