Chennai's Mylapore, T Nagar to get metro by 2028

Due to the complicated design of Thirumayilai metro, an interchange station in Mylapore, it is possible that the city's central neighbourhoods won't have metro train service until 2028. The commissioning of metro service in places like T Nagar, Nandanam, Mylapore, Mandaveli, Radhakrishnan Salai, Royapettah, and Thousand Lights may take some time. Residents and drivers in these areas may have to navigate congested, barricaded roads for the next five years while the metro service is delayed. A vital intersection that connects corridors 3 and 4 is Thirumayilai, which runs from corridor 3's Madhavaram Milk Colony to corridor 4's Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass. Phase 2 of the 118.1 km project is anticipated to be completed between 2026 and 2028.

The three levels of the Thirumayilai metro made construction the most difficult. Accordingly, according to M A Siddique, managing director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, all the segments extending to Thirumayilai will be completed in 2028.
