Alignment survey for Gurgaon metro to begin soon

Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) officials announced that groundwork for the new metro line between Millennium City Centre and Cyber City would begin soon, with the project's design consultant tasked with finalising the route alignment and identifying the exact locations for all 27 stations. Systra India, appointed as the detailed design consultant (DDC), will conduct a survey expected to take two to three months to complete.

Officials explained that GPS technology would be employed to map the precise locations of metro stations and associated infrastructure, including entry and exit gates. They added that a 500m buffer zone along the metro corridor and intersecting roads would also be surveyed to ensure smooth intermodal transfers.

Last week, GMRL’s managing director, Chandra Shekhar Khare, wrote to local authorities, including GMDA, MCG, NHAI, and traffic police, seeking their cooperation in executing the project. A senior GMRL official noted that the survey was essential as the city’s landscape had changed significantly since the last assessment five years ago. He explained that this exercise would help finalise the metro's alignment, station locations, and infrastructure to ensure seamless integration with Gurugram’s existing urban framework.

GMRL is also expected to appoint a general consultant for the project, who will oversee procurement, construction, management, testing, and commissioning of the metro line. Spanning 28.8 km with 27 elevated stations, the line will begin at Millennium City, traverse Old Gurgaon, and end at Cyber City in a loop, with a project budget of ?54.52 billion.

Officials pointed out that this would be the first metro extension in Gurugram in seven years, as the city’s public transportation network has seen little development despite its growing population and status as a corporate and IT hub. Currently, Gurugram has only 17 km of metro lines, including 5.3 km of the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line and 11.7 km of the Rapid Metro. The last expansion, in 2017, saw the completion of the Rapid Metro, connecting Cyber City and most of Golf Course Road.
