66 percent of Lokhandwala-Vikhroli subway line complete

The 15.31-kilometer Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala Complex) to Vikhroli Metro Line 6 is 66 per cent complete, but the car depot that is necessary to make the route work is nowhere to be found.

The suburbs are connected by this second mass rapid transit link; Mumbai Metro 1 was the popular line that used to connect Versova and Ghatkopar.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) provided an update on the line that is currently in the process of construction on Monday. Civil work on 13 stations is finished at 51.50 per cent. The civil work on 13 stations connecting the eastern and western suburbs is 51.50 per cent complete, and the viaduct is 71 per cent ready, breaking the project down into its individual parts.

This double-deck structure crosses the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road. The lower deck is an elevated road or flyover, and the upper deck is the Metro viaduct, which is an elevated civil structure that carries a rail line.

The engineering structure's elevated vehicular road section of 2.58 km will connect the Western Express Highway and Eastern Express Highway without the need for a signal. While the Metro line will transport commuters to and from work and home.

The Mumbai Metro Lines 2A (Dahisar East to DN Nagar), 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ), 4 (Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavli-Gaimukh), and 7 (Dahisar East to Gundavali) will all be integrated with this link.

In addition, Mumbai Metro 1 will be connected to Jogeshwari and Kanjurmarg stations in the same way that Andheri and Ghatkopar stations are.

However, the project's greatest obstacle is the lack of available land for a car depot. The MMRDA had intended to establish a depot at Kanjurmarg, but the matter has become contentious, and previous administrations have failed to resolve it. The State Government attempted to transfer a portion of the land to the Centre a few months ago, but has so far been unsuccessful.

"MMRDA is constructing the Metro network to provide mass rapid transit services to people within a short travel distance," stated Metropolitan Commissioner SVR Srinivas. The much-needed rail-based connectivity between the western and eastern suburbs will be provided by Metro Line 6, which will also contribute to an integrated public transportation network for Mumbaikars.
