World's highest motorable road at 18,600 ft in Ladakh now operational

The world's highest motorable road at 18,600 ft in Ladakh is now operational as Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal inaugurated the road that links Leh to the Pangong Lake.

The stretch is the world's highest motorable way and is crossed by the Kela Pass at 18,600 ft.

The road is developed by the Indian army's 58 Engineer Regiment, reducing the journey to 41 km from Leh (Zingral to Tangtse) to the picturesque Pangong Lake passing the Kela Pass.

Namgyal told the media that the road would be a significant part in the future to increase the socio-economic status of the regional residents, particularly of the Lalok area of Ladakh.

The MP revealed that the tourists would see rare medicinal plants, nomadic livestock, snow sport activities, lakes, and additional attractions.

The inauguration took place at the Kela top, at an altitude of 18,600 ft. During the inauguration, Namgyal praised the commitment of the Indian Army, especially the 58 Engineer Regiment, for developing the road. He also lauded the devotion of the government regarding the infrastructure of borders, specifically bridges and roads.

General Officer Commanding 14th Corp, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee and Stanzin Chosphel (Executive Councillors), Lt Gen PG K Menon, Ven. Lama Konchok Tsephel, Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), and other officials were present during the inauguration ceremony.
