Work on Bihar’s Amas-Darbhanga expressway to begin soon

The construction of the 189-km Amas-Darbhanga expressway in Bihar will start soon. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will visit the state next week to participate in the 'Sant Samagam' in Buxar district, where he would lay the foundation stone of this project.

The expressway will be constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It will run between Amas in Aurangabad district, on the Delhi-Kolkata NH-19, and NH-27 at Nawada village in Darbhanga district, crossing seven districts, including Arwal, Jehanabad, Patna, Vaishali and Samastipur.

The land acquisition for this project is almost complete. It will be constructed in four packages. The first package of 55 km is between Amas and Shivrampur, the second package between Shivrampur and Ramnagar of 54.3 km, the third package between Rampur and Pal Dashara of 45 km and the fourth package between Pal Dashara and Nawada of 44.1 km. The expected cost of the project is Rs 60 billion and NHAI has allotted the tender to three construction companies.

NHAI has set a deadline to complete the project by 2024. It will connect north to south Bihar with travel time of less than four hours. NHAI has notified this expressway as NH-119D.
