TCS secures 10 year contract for smart mobility system in London

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has bagged a 10 year contract with Transport for London (TfL) for designing, implementing and operating a new smart mobility system.

The company will digitally modify taxi and private hire licensing and administration, which will benefit about 1,15,000 taxis and private hire vehicles.

On Thursday, TCS told the media that the contract might likely extend for another five years.

TCS will design and launch the new mobility system using the DigiGOV framework. The system will have an on-demand data and management record system to enhance the user experience by providing services such as licensing payments and refunds to vehicle users and owners via digital channels.

The digital platform will streamline the workflow connecting the front-end interface with the back-end activities like bookings, vehicle inspection, personal details, and processing. The data will be hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.

General Manager of Taxi and Private Hire TfL, Graham Robinson, told the media that an effective and efficient licensing system is supreme for any regulator overseeing taxi and private hire vehicles in the world. The company is pleased to deal with TCS as it will ensure to keep business pace with technology developments and provide the best services to the licensees, he added.

Amit Kapur, Country Head of TCS Uk and Ireland, said that TfL is a leading transportation authority worldwide with an innovative approach to manage urban transportation using technology and data. The newly designed technology system by TCS will meet the main objective of TfL to enhance customer service and future requirements like connected, shared, electrical, and autonomous vehicular registrations.

He further said that TCS is delighted to get appointed by TfL to deliver this transformation of the smart mobility system.

It can be extended to comply with the evolving policy and requirements and legislation. TCS will carry in-depth training as a part of the onboarding process. With nearly 18,000 employees in the UK, TCS is the largest IT service provider.
