PMC announces completion of Katraj-Kondhwa Road Project by March 2024

Vikram Kumar, the municipal commissioner, announced that the long-awaited Katraj-Kondhwa road project will finally be completed by March 2024 after facing multiple delays.

The state government has already approved Rs 2 billion for the project as part of the supplementary budget. Once the funds are received, the PMC will initiate the crucial land acquisition work, which is estimated to cost Rs 2.8 billion.

The high cost of land acquisition has been a major hindrance, leading the PMC to make the decision to reduce the road width from 84 meters to 50 meters to accommodate the budget constraints. However, despite this adjustment, the land acquisition work is expected to be completed by October of this year, according to Kumar.

The ongoing monsoon rains have worsened traffic conditions on the Katraj-Kondhwa road, adding to commuters' frustration due to several potholes. To address this issue, the civic body plans to use cold mix to clear all the potholes.

Last month, PMC took a significant step towards resolving the traffic problems in the area by deciding to acquire a land parcel at Katraj Square for Rs 215.7 million. This acquisition is expected to provide a solution to the traffic problem at Katraj Chowk.

Currently, the proposal for the land acquisition is awaiting approval from the standing committee, which is likely to make a decision soon. Once the land is acquired, it will pave the way for the much-needed improvement of the Katraj-Kondhwa road.
