HRDCL builds steel bridge between Jubilee hills and Shaikpet in Hyd

The Telangana government is developing the fifth steel bridge to reduce travelling time and distance between Shaikpet and Jubilee Hills.

The 290-metre four-lane steel bridge is being developed by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL) at an evaluated cost of Rs 23 crore in Silent Lake Valley, Road Number 51, Jubilee Hills.

The other two steel bridges have been installed in Punjagutta, Indira Park – VST Junction and Malakpet. The new steel bridge is likely to be thrown open to the public by January 2022.

According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), apart from decreasing the traffic congestion in and around road number 51, the project will guarantee better connectivity and lesser commuting distance.

As of date, the average distance to reach Road Number 45 Jubilee Hills from Shaikpet through Silent Lake Valley is about 5 km, but once this bridge gets developed, the distance will reduce to 3.5 km.

Presently, the road joining Shaikpet and Road Number 45 Jubilee Hills has heavy traffic, and the new bridge will relieve traffic on that stretch. Engineers observing the project said that heavy vehicles could also ply on the bridge. An HRDCL engineer told the media that the bridge is four-laned, there will be no traffic jams. It can carry the weight of heavy vehicles too.

The corporation is also laying service roads to enhance the connectivity between Shaikpet and Jubilee Hills. Meanwhile, Silent Lake Valley residents said that the service road in their region, which is blocked on one side, should be opened to guarantee seamless travelling.

E Raghavan, a resident of the area, told the media that the bridge would provide ease to commuters and congestion on this road will lessen, but to guarantee hassle-free traffic movement, the road that has been closed should be opened. As of now, commuters reaching Road Number 45 from Road Number 51 are forced to travel via D K Nagar because of the closed service road and missing link.
