Noida Authority opens 1st bridge to tide over traffic chaos

Noida Authority has wrapped up the widening work of the first of the five bridges on Shahdara drain between Film City and Mahamaya Flyover. On April 22 one of the carriageways of the bridge was opened to traffic. With this its a relief to thousands of commuters who travel to Noida-GreaterNoida from the DND Flyway and from east Delhi.

The second carriageway will be opened on April 30. Work on the first bridge has been carried out at a cost of around Rs 19 crore and the four-lane bridge has been widened to an eight-lane one. Each 7.5 m carriageway has been widened to 30 metre. Until now, the Shahdara drain bridge was a major traffic bottleneck for commuters travelling between Delhi and Noida-Greater Noida via the Expressway.

Traffic snarls between Film City and Mahamaya Flyover were a regular occurrence. The stretch witnessed regular traffic jams as vehicles coming from Akshardham side via the eight-lane UP link road were forced to converge at the four-lane Shahdara drain stretch. Vehicles moving from Noida's Sector 18 and Greater Noida towards Delhi or Ghaziabad via the NH-24 route also added to the chaos and as a result, the arterial road remained completely choked during peak hours.
