UP transport dept invites applications for vehicle scrapping centres

The Uttar Pradesh transport department has started inviting applications to set up vehicle scrapping centres in the state.

The vehicles for scrapping comprise those whose registration cannot be renewed, are not road-worthy, destroyed due to riots, fire, accident or any other reason.

Besides this, seized or auctioned vehicles would also be taken into consideration.

According to the circular issued by Rajesh Kumar Singh, the principal secretary, transport, an applicant should have 1 to 3 acres of minimum area to establish a scrapping centre, including road access.

The Centre’s guidelines also specify tools that each scrapping centre must have.

A senior transport official told the media that from February 18, they started inviting applications to set up scrapping centres.

Any individual, firm, institution trust can apply to establish a vehicle scrapping centre in Uttar Pradesh.
