Tata Projects bags construction work of Noida International Airport

Tata Projects Ltd (TPL), the infrastructure and construction arm of the Tata group, has emerged as the lowest bidder among three firms in final contention for the award of civil construction work for the Noida International Airport at Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) began its tendering process electronic Request for Quotation (e-RFQ) in April 2021 via two Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts: Package-1 related to the terminal building’s construction and Package-2 for landside, airside, and associated works.

Technical bids were opened in March 2022 to reveal three bidders – Tata Projects (TPL), Larsen & Toubro (L&T), and Shapoorji Pallonji (SP).

In November last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Jewar. Swiss firm Zurich International AG has planned to make the airport operational by 2024.

So far Zurich International has finished the construction of 9 km of the 17 km-long boundary wall around 1,334 hectares of land on which the greenfield is being designed. The ground has also been fully levelled.

Phase 1 of Noida Airport, located south-east of Delhi, expects a 90,000 sq m Terminal 1 building, 4150 m x 45 m Code ‘E’ runway (Runway 10/28) fully backed by CAT III approach lighting and visual aids, Air Traffic Control (ATC) building, parallel end to end taxiway, cargo facility, and commercial developments.

There will be two for international passengers, 10 entries for domestic passengers, 10 migration desks, and 48 checkpoints at the airport. The authority will construct a 2.8 million litre a day (MLD) water treatment plant and a 6.28 MLD sewage treatment plant for drinking water purposes and treating the sewage.
