Kuppam Greenfield Airport Revival to Boost Connectivity

The Kuppam Greenfield Airport, located at the tri-junction of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu within the Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor, is set for a major revival. Positioned within 100 km of Bengaluru, 250 km from Chennai, 75 km from Hosur, and 180 km from Tirupati, the airport is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity and foster industrial growth.

Originally envisioned by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who laid its foundation stone in 2018, the project was stalled under the previous administration. With the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) back in power, renewed efforts are underway to fast-track its development.

Key Features of the Airport Project ???? Total land allocation: 1,250 acres ???? Phase I: 683 acres ???? Phase II expansion: 567 acres ???? Passenger terminal capacity: 1 million passengers annually ???? Cargo capacity: 1 million metric tonnes of freight ???? Seamless connectivity to: Major highways, industrial parks, rail networks, and a Free Trade Warehousing Zone

The Kuppam 2029 Vision Document underscores the airport’s transformative role in making Kuppam a major economic and cultural hub in Southern India.

Sustainability & Infrastructure Highlights ? Net-Zero Carbon Emissions ? Energy-Efficient Materials & Water Conservation Strategies ? Waste Management Systems & Eco-Friendly Technologies ? Automated Check-In & Modern Baggage Handling Systems ? Dedicated Customs & Immigration Facilities

Challenges & Development Strategy ???? Land acquisition remains a key hurdle, necessitating public engagement, fair compensation, and structured resettlement plans. ???? The project will follow a Public-Private-People Partnership (P4) model, leveraging state and central government funding along with private investment. ???? Initial efforts will focus on fast-tracking approvals from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and environmental authorities, followed by land acquisition and site preparation.

The airport is expected to boost trade, attract investments, and improve freight and passenger movement. Plans include:

Attracting airlines & developing new domestic routes Installing advanced air traffic control & security systems Strengthening cargo handling capabilities for industrial expansion

With this revival, the Kuppam Greenfield Airport is poised to become a key driver of economic growth, industrial expansion, and enhanced connectivity in Southern India.
