IGIA to launch DigiYatra facility at T3, to eliminate app downloading

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) announced the introduction of a new facility called DigiYatra, aimed at simplifying travel for passengers. The DigiYatra facility allows passengers to enjoy its benefits without requiring them to download a mobile application. This initiative has been launched specifically at Terminal 3 and streamlines the registration process for passengers into three simple steps.

According to a statement from IGI Airport, passengers can avail of this facility by scanning their boarding pass and face, while presenting identification proof to the security staff stationed near the registration desk. Upon successful registration, passengers can experience seamless travel within the terminal, including areas such as the security check area and the boarding gates.

DigiYatra was initially launched on December 1 last year. New Delhi Airport's website describes DigiYatra as an initiative that utilises facial recognition technology to provide a smooth, hassle-free, and paperless process for terminal entry and security clearance at the airport. The platform verifies the identity of flyers using facial recognition technology and offers a decentralised mobile-based ID storage platform where air passengers can store their IDs and travel documents.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) and the Digi Yatra Foundation introduced DigiYatra. The platform also reduces wait times for air travellers and makes the boarding process faster and more seamless, according to the website. At present, the DigiYatra facility is available at Terminals 2 and 3 of the IGI Airport. Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO, Delhi International Airport Limited, stated, "We have been continuously striving to enhance the passenger experience at Delhi Airport. This latest initiative will enable even those who are less tech-savvy to fully utilize DigiYatra and travel seamlessly. DigiYatra offers a faster, safer, and smoother travel experience, aiming to allow passengers to spend more time with their loved ones at the airport."

Biomass Burning Key Culprit Behind Kolkata’s Air Toxicity: Study

Kolkata, a city marked under India’s National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), continues to grapple with hazardous air despite national efforts, due to the unchecked burning of biomass and solid waste. A new study by the Bose Institute has revealed a sharp correlation between ultrafine particulate matter (PM2.5) and rising toxicity levels, identifying waste burning as a key contributor. The research, led by Prof. Abhijit Chatterjee and his team, studied the oxidative potential (OP) of PM2.5—referring to its capacity to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) in human lungs. These ROS can overwhe..
