Supreme Court expresses concern over Delhi's air pollution

The Supreme Court, observing the persistent air pollution in the national capital despite the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) taking several remedial steps, directed the governments of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan to provide details about the measures they have initiated to control it. The court noted that a couple of decades ago, this was the best time in Delhi, but now the city's air quality has worsened to the point where it is difficult to even go outside.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice SK Kaul instructed the five states to submit affidavits within a week. Justice Kaul stated, "The concerned states should file an affidavit outlining the steps they have taken to improve the situation. We urge the states of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan to submit an affidavit within a week." The bench, which also included Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and P K Mishra, scheduled the further hearing for November 7.

Gujarat Struggles to Curb Illegal Constructions in Ahmedabad

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) practice of demolishing certain structures while regularising others for a fee has weakened..

DTCP indicated that 1,138 notices had already been served to homeowners in DLF Phase 3, with additional notices to be issued soon. Property owners have until January 31 to revert to the approved building designs and cease all illegal commercial operations. Failure to comply would result in demolition and seali..

Gujarat HC Removes GST on Industrial Leases to Encourage Investment

The recent ruling is set to streamline transactions and potentially encourage increased investments in India’s industrial and commercial leasing sectors. The judgment addressed whether transferring leasehold rights for Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) plots constitutes a ‘supply’ under the GST Act. The court determined that these transactions involve the transfer of immovable property rather than a service, thereby placing them outside the purview of GST. This decision offers significant relief to industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing, where long..
