RMC nods Rs 2 bn green bond for city projects

The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) made history by approving a green bond of Rs 2 billion. It was aimed at generating funds during the financial year 2023-24 to support various development projects in the city.

Aijaz Dhebar, Mayor, presided over a meeting in the presence of Mayank Chaturvedi, Commissioner, which focused on allocating the raised funds to significant projects. It was decided that the funds would be used for several projects. The first one was the construction of a sports complex at Eidgah Bhata Hind Sporting Ground, with an estimated cost of Rs 250 million. Another project was the construction of a commercial complex at the old RMC office at Jaistambh Chowk, budgeted at Rs 600 crore. Additionally, the city would establish a TTP in Nimora and Kara STP, involving an expenditure of Rs 400 million. There were also plans for a state-of-the-art e-Bus project in Raipur, valued at Rs 800 million, and a commercial complex at Bhaisthan, with a budget of Rs 550 million.

The Mayor expressed that the issuance of municipal bonds and the funding of various projects would contribute to creating a more vibrant and sustainable city for the future.

Furthermore, they allocated Rs 200 million to purchase 10 electric buses, intending to promote sustainable transportation and reduce the city's carbon footprint. The tendering process for procuring these electric buses would commence shortly, as decided in the meeting. A total of 27 proposals were addressed during the gathering.

In addition to these developments, the meeting concluded with the decision to name two roads after freedom fighters. One road from Chandni Chowk to Bhatagaon Bus Stand would be named in memory of Late Jhumuk Lal Mahobia, while another road from Phool Chowk to Nayapara and Saraswati Kanya Shala would be named after Late Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari.

According to the Commissioner, these measures formed part of Raipur's ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and promote environmental sustainability.
