PM launches Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission at Rs 64k cr

PM Narendra Modi has launched the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PMABHIM) at an outlay of Rs 64,000 crore.

The mission will ensure robust public health systems in urban and rural areas and strengthen surveillance and research to effectively respond to health emergencies in the future and also combat outbreaks like the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is an addition to the existing National Health Mission, which addresses healthcare needs in rural and urban areas.

PM Modi launched the project on Monday at a gathering at Mehdiganj and then inaugurated 28 projects of Rs 5,189 crore. He said that the project is India's major step towards healthcare while keeping wellness on priority.

He added that most of the areas do not have hospitals, and the existing hospitals lack facilities for accurate diagnosis, surgery, and emergency cases. This results in crowding in big hospitals and healthcare centers, and the families struggle for better facilities.
