Odisha to get cyclone-resistant saline embankment

The Odisha government has launched a Rs 7.64 billion project to construct a 198.81-kilometer-long cyclone-resistant saline embankment in the state's four coastal districts. A proposal in this regard had previously been approved by the state cabinet in August. The state government has decided to fund the project entirely with its own funds. The scheme will be implemented from fiscal year 2022-23 to 2024-25. The project's goal is to raise and strengthen saline embankments in the four coastal districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Puri to withstand the impact of severe cyclones and protect adjacent landmass and habitation from flood, saline ingress, and tidal surge from the Bay of Bengal.
