NMCG approves Rs 509.8 million sewerage project in Bulandshahr

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has sanctioned a Rs 509.8 million sewerage project in Gulaothi town, Bulandshahr district. This is part of nine projects totalling Rs 2.65 billion, approved during the NMCG's 56th executive committee meeting in New Delhi. These initiatives are key to reducing pollution and improving the river Ganga's ecosystem.

The Gulaothi project aims to prevent pollution in the East Kali River, a Ganga tributary, with a 10 MLD treatment plant planned. Another major project approved is an Rs 44 million faecal sludge management system for Dalmau in Raebareli, which includes an 8 KLD treatment plant powered by solar energy.

In preparation for the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela, Rs 18 million has been allocated for the construction of an Arth Ganga Centre and branding of Chheoki Railway Station in Prayagraj. Additionally, a restoration project for tributaries of the Gomti River, costing Rs 8.1 million, and the establishment of a Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers (SLCR) secretariat in Varanasi have also been approved. The SLCR project, executed by IIT (BHU), aims to rejuvenate smaller rivers across India using global expertise. (Hindustan Times)
