Karnataka CM Meets PM Modi, Seeks Approvals for Water Projects

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to request urgent approvals for two key irrigation projects: the Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir and the Kalasa Bandhuri project. In addition, he sought financial support of Rs 10,000 crore for critical areas such as agriculture, water resources, and urban infrastructure. Siddaramaiah highlighted the issue of reduced agricultural credit limits, which he said would severely affect Karnataka’s farmers, urging the Prime Minister to instruct the Finance Ministry to reverse this decision.

The CM also requested Rs 5,300 crore for the Upper Bhadra Project, which aims to irrigate drought-prone lands in central Karnataka. During the meeting, he emphasized Bengaluru's growing status as a tech hub and its contribution to the nation's GDP, stressing the need for special assistance for urban transportation and infrastructure. The meeting also included discussions on compensation grants following unfavorable treatment from the 15th Finance Commission.
