INR 970 Crore Approved for LNG Bus Conversion

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has received approval for a substantial investment of INR 970 crore to convert 5,000 of its buses to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG). This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the state's public transport fleet and transition towards more sustainable fuel options.

The conversion to LNG is expected to offer several benefits, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, lower operating costs, and a decrease in air pollutants compared to traditional diesel engines. LNG is considered a cleaner alternative, aligning with environmental goals and the push for greener transportation solutions.

This investment not only supports the adoption of cleaner fuel but also enhances the overall efficiency and reliability of public transport services. The move is anticipated to significantly contribute to improving air quality and reducing the carbon footprint of MSRTC's fleet.

By embracing LNG technology, the MSRTC aims to lead by example in the shift towards sustainable public transportation and demonstrate the viability of alternative fuel sources in large-scale transport operations.

Airfare hike not tied to increased airport charges; ACI

The Airports Council International (ACI) stated that rising airfares are not linked to increased airport charges. Airport charges are crucial for infrastructure development within the commercial aviation ecosystem, but they remain a minimal part of the overall airfare. Stefano Baronci, Director General of ACI Asia Pacific & Middle East, emphasized that airports are infrastructure-intensive businesses, with costs dominated by maintaining essential infrastructure such as runways, taxiways, aprons, and terminal buildings. He noted that neglecting the capital expenditure needed to support future g..
