GAIL Re-engages Process Licensor for Revival of Mangalore PTA Plant

GAIL (India) Ltd has re-engaged INEOS, a global leader in petrochemical manufacturing, to support the revival of its PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) manufacturing plant in Mangalore.

This plant, located in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Mangalore, has a production capacity of 1.25 million tonnes per annum. GAIL acquired the plant following insolvency proceedings against its previous owner, JBF Petrochemicals, in 2023. The re-engagement of INEOS is a key step in revitalizing the plant and enhancing its operational efficiency.

The collaboration aims to position GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd (GMPL) as a leading player in India’s PTA market, reducing the country’s reliance on imports. The partnership will also focus on improving the plant’s capabilities to meet the growing demand for petrochemicals in the domestic market.
