G20 Infrastructure Working Group gathers in Khajuraho for key talks

The Ministry of Finance, Government of India, is set to host the fourth meeting of the G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, spanning from September 21 to 22.

This event signifies the culmination of the Infrastructure Working Group's discussions during India's G20 Presidency, bringing together more than 54 representatives from G20 member nations, guest countries, and international organisations invited by India.

The G20 Infrastructure Working Group assumes a critical role in addressing diverse facets of infrastructure investments, with a special emphasis on fostering infrastructure as an asset class, advancing top-notch urban infrastructure, Infratech development, and innovative mechanisms for mobilising financial resources to support resilient, sustainable, and inclusive urban infrastructure.

Among the topics on the meeting's agenda is the finalisation of priorities for the 2023 Infrastructure Agenda. This includes the examination of the World Bank's report on Enablers of Inclusive-Cities, the compilation of Infrastructure Taxonomies, and the implementation of the Infrastructure Tracker tool to monitor investments in various infrastructure sectors by different countries.

Furthermore, the two-day event will encompass official meetings and cultural programs tailored for the attending delegates.

In conjunction with the IWG meetings, collaborative discussions will also be held with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to explore strategies for amplifying private sector investments in urban infrastructure.

Distinguished representatives from institutions such as the World Bank, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), along with public and private sector stakeholders, will offer their insights on addressing challenges and aiding cities in securing private and commercial financing for infrastructure development.

Beyond the formal proceedings, delegates will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Khajuraho, which includes visits to the renowned UNESCO World Heritage site at the Western Group of Temples, the Adivart Museum, and the Raneh Falls.
