Centre approves 121-km Guwahati ring road project

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs [CCEA] has approved the 121-km Northern Guwahati Bypass and widening or improvement of the existing Guwahati bypass. Besides, CCEA also gave its nod to seven national high-speed road corridor projects. The eight projects will cover a length of 936 km entailing investment of Rs.506.55 billion to improve logistics efficiency and connectivity across the country. The Guwahati Ring Road will be developed in a build operate toll (BOT) mode at a total capital cost of Rs.57.29 billion in three sections. A major bridge over river Brahmaputra will also be constructed as a part of the project.

24x7 Manimajra water supply project inaugurated
The 24x7 Manimajra water supply project was inaugurated by Amit Shah, Union Minister, Home.  Gulab Chand Kataria, Punjab Governor and Union Territory Chandigarh Administrator, was also present on this occasion. Built at a cost of Rs.750 million, the project will benefit over 0.1 million residents of Manimajra, including those living in the Modern Housing Complex, Shivalik Enclave, Indira Colony and Shastri Nagar. The project, a part of the Smart City mission, is aimed at avoiding wastage of water by minimising storage through continuous high-pressure supply.

Gujarat Centre Greenlights Rs.105 billion high-speed corridor project in state
The Central Government has approved the Tharad-Mehsana-Ahmedabad National High-Speed Corridor in Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Rs.105 billion for the 214 km long six-lane, access-controlled corridor under the Bharatmala Project. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has hailed this decision, noting that construction of this corridor—extending through the Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad districts—will significantly enhance the state’s industrial and economic development. 

Gurgaon infrastructure projects: CM inaugurates projects worth Rs.1.44 bn  
Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Minister, inaugurated and laid foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth Rs.1.44 billion in the city. Among them, MCG projects, which include laying of water supply lines and road construction, will be carried out at a cost of Rs.1.3 billion. The CM also launched projects of the irrigation department and health department, which have been allotted Rs.127 million and Rs.18 million respectively. The chief minister laid the foundation stones for 10 MCG development projects worth over Rs.1.3 billion including Rs.10 million for a water supply line and interlocking tiles in Pir Baba Colony in Zone-4, Rs.9.9 million for water supply and interlocking tiles in Bhupnagar, Rs.236 million for a sewerage network in Bhondsi village and Rs.65 million for road construction projects in Malibu.

Now, state government approves Rs.873 billion river linking project
The Maharashtra government, in regions plagued by farmer suicides, has approved the ambitious Wainganga-Nalganga river linking project. The project, with an estimated cost of `873 billion will irrigate around 0.375 million hectares of land, significantly benefiting drought-prone areas such as Marathwada. The project plans to channel water from Godavari basin into the Wainganga river project in Buldhana district. To achieve this, a total of 426.52 km of connecting canals will be constructed. The districts of Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola and Buldhana in Vidarbha will benefit from irrigation, drinking water and industrial water supply.

Ministry of Railways sanctions Rs.2.88 billion for 8.1 km flyover at Sambalpur
The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned `2.88 billion for construction of a 8.1 km railway flyover connecting Sambalpur station with Sambalpur city station. This project will enhance train operations and alleviate congestion at this critical junction. The project is a part of the energy corridor scheme of Indian Railways launched for sustainable and efficient infrastructure development.
The flyover will facilitate simultaneous train movements from all directions at Sambalpur, easing train traffic and ensuring hassle-free operations.

Amara Raja Infra commissions NTPC's 90 MW Anta solar PV project
Amara Raja Infra (ARIPL), which is a part of the $2 billion Amara Raja Group, has commissioned NTPC’s 90 MW ground-mounted solar PV project at Anta in Baran district
of Rajasthan. Spread across 437 acres, the project is set to generate 213 million units of green energy per annum. The project is touted as the country’s first balance of system (BoS) solar contract awarded by a central government public sector unit. The project is part of ARIPL’s existing solar PV portfolio of 2,000 MW and constructed transmission infrastructure for evacuation of over 7,500 MW of renewable energy through EHV substation and transmission lines in India.

Cabinet approves Rs.441 billion investments from 15 projects
The State Cabinet has approved 15 new private investments worth Rs.441 billion, said Thangam Thennarasu, Finance Minister, Tamil Nadu. These investments are expected to provide employment opportunities for 24,700 people. Announcing the decisions taken by the Cabinet, the minister said that the new investments would be in vehicle manufacturing, food processing, electronics goods manufacturing, renewable energy and the battery manufacturing sectors. The important investments among them are Sembcorp's investment of `213 billion in Thoothukudi district, which will provide jobs for 1,114 people and Motherson Electronics investment of Rs.22 billion in Kancheepuram district, providing jobs for 2,600 people. In Erode district, Milky Mist is investing Rs.17.77 billion in the food processing sector, providing jobs for 2,025 people.

State to provide free power supply to 30,000 government schools
The state government will provide free electricity to about 30,000 government schools as part of measures to improve infrastructure facilities, said Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister, Telangana. Observing that reconstruction of Telangana is in the hands of the teachers he said the state will be strengthened if those from poorer sections of society and others are educated. He also said over `210 billion has been allocated for education in the state budget, which is 7.3 per cent.

State in talks with global companies to set up repair hub at Noida airport
Noida International Airport (NIAL) is set to issue an expression of interest (EOI) to establish a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hub adjacent to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar. This hub will be a part of the project's second phase and will involve acquisition of 1,365 hectares. The government, to encourage investment, has introduced a MRO policy with subsidies, from 5 to 12 percent, for firms that submit their applications by December 2024. The demand for MRO services in India is expected to grow faster than the global average. This sector has significant potential, as maintenance costs account for around 12 percent to 15 percent of overall revenue, making it the second most expensive item after fuel. 

Malaysia's construction sector rises 20.2 per cent in Q2
Malaysia's construction sector rose 20.2 per cent year on year with work done value amounting to 38.9 billion ringgit in the second quarter. The Department of Statistics Malaysia said growth was spearheaded by the buoyant performance of the civil engineering and residential buildings sub-sectors, which posted substantial double-digit increases of 25.2 percent and 19.7 percent, respectively. Also, growth of the sector was further bolstered by 44.9 per cent expansion in the special trade activities. The sub-sector of non-residential buildings also gained momentum, growing 7.2 per cent. Out of 38.9 billion ringgit of work done, 39 per cent was attributed to the construction of roads and railways and utility projects.

China’s Xinjiang highway will have a 16 km long ice tunnel
Chinese contractors will drill a 16 km-long tunnel through a 2.4 km-deep layer of glacial ice to build a major road in Xinjiang. The aim is to shorten the driving distance between the two towns from 1,710km to 500 km. The project will connect north and south Xinjiang in order to boost trade and tourism and provide an improved road link to Tibet, Central Asia, India and Russia. The drilling is being carried out by the ‘Wensu’, a 235 m-long drill weighing 1,800 tonnes.

Archer plans to launch air mobility network by 2026
Archer Aviation said that it plans to launch an air mobility network in Los Angeles [LA], with operations beginning as early as 2026. The planned network in one of the most congested cities of the United States will allow passengers to go to a nearby vertiport or vertical take-off and landing location, and then fly 10 to 20 minutes in the company's Midnight aircraft to their destination of choice within the network. Archer's Midnight aircraft, which has not yet been certified to carry passengers, can fly at speeds upto 150 mph and is designed to carry a pilot and up to four passengers along with carry-on luggage.

Vietnam plans subsidies for EV charging stations
Vietnam will ensure all urban areas have public electric vehicle (EV) charging systems, adding that a unified set of technical standards for these stations is to be issued by the end of this month. Vietnam is planning to subsidise electricity prices for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, as part of its efforts to promote the use of EVs and meet its energy transition commitments. The subsidy scheme is due to be submitted to the central government by mid-September for approval. The country currently has just over 150,000 EV charging ports. The Southeast Asian country, home of EV maker VinFast, is targeting carbon neutrality by 2050, in line with the commitment made by advanced economies.

Israel to invest $13.8 million to reuse treated wastewater 
Israel will provide first-time financial support to set up infrastructure for reusing treated wastewater in agriculture, the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security said. A total of 52 million shekels (about $13.8 million) will be invested to subsidise the costs for farms that switch to using treated wastewater for irrigating. Currently, Israel discharges an average of 68 million cubic metres (MCM) of treated wastewater into the sea annually, costing about 70 Israeli cents per cubic metre for purification and transportation. According to the ministry, redirecting the wastewater to agriculture could save nearly 50 million shekels per year.

90% Defaulters Yet to Settle Rs 3.17 Bn Power Dues in Noida

Out of a total of 1.31 lakh defaulters in Noida, only 13,500 consumers availed of the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme during its first phase.
