L&T bags Rs 8,250-cr order from Saudi Arabia

L&T Construction's Heavy Civil Infrastructure Business has bagged a contract worth $1.403 billion (Rs 8,250-cr) from Riyadh Development Authority for a metro project in Saudi Arabia. L&T Construction won the turnkey contract from ArRiyadh Development Authority in Saudi Arabia for the design, construction and commissioning of the metro project in Riyadh.

In a statement, the company said that the heavy civil infrastructure business of L&T Construction has taken the lead and made a major breakthrough in the international market by securing the order. The scope of work involves design, construction and commissioning of Line 3, which will be a 41 km long Driverless Train Operation line.

The contract includes construction of bridges, tunnels, elevated & underground stations, depots, roads, systems for CCTV and public announcements and SCADA with allied systems, among others. The project will comprise of three stages, stage 1 will span for eight months and will involve work related to detailed designing and for undertaking enabling works, coordination for utilities diversion and the site preparation works. The stage 2 involves actual implementation of the project and will span for four years.

The last and the third stage will span for four months for system demonstration, trial runs and project handing over. L&T secured the order as a joint venture partner of ArRiyadh New Mobility Consortium, which also comprise Ansaldo STS, Italy, Bombardier Transportation Ltd, UK, Impregilo S.p.A, Italy, Nesma & Partners- Saudi Arabia. The total value of order is $5941.93 million.

The rail systems will be undertaken by Ansaldo STS and rolling stock by Bombardier Transportation Ltd.
