PM Modi to attend launch of industrial investment in J&K in March

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for the inauguration of industrial projects worth Rs 20,000 to 25,000 crore here next month.

Sinha sought public support for his administration's efforts to usher in a new era of peace, prosperity, and development in the Union Territory under Modi's leadership.

Sinha was speaking at a function held in Bajalta to inaugurate 20 power projects worth Rs 48 crore that will improve power supply to consumers in five districts of Jammu: Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri, and Reasi.

Two major projects to make Jammu and Kashmir self-sufficient in the power sector will be completed within the next year and a half, according to Sinha.

In the run-up to the groundbreaking industrial investment ceremony on February 20, Sinha said government land available with the industries department is being allotted to investors who have paid the fee and submitted detailed project reports (DPR), and the process is expected to be completed by February 20.

The Lt Governor, who called electricity a prerequisite for economic development, said Jammu and Kashmir has a lot of power generation capacity that has not been fully utilised over the years, and that the distribution and transmission system is also in bad shape.

According to Sinha, 134 of the 128 sub-projects approved under the Prime Minister's Development Package to improve the transmission and distribution system have been completed, with the remaining 54 expected to be completed by the end of March.

Sinha informed that his administration is working to provide relief to the people of both Kashmir and Jammu divisions who have been affected by power outages in the winter and summer.
