Kolhapur civic body offers 270 sq ft homes to Kamgar Chal dwellers

According to Ravikant Adsul, Additional Commissioner, Kamgar Chal (KMC) announced that they would provide 270 sq ft houses to the families of Kamgar Chal at the same location.

It was reported that five buildings in Kamgar Chal were in a dilapidated condition, and due to safety concerns, the municipal administration had issued relocation notices to the families residing there. KMC conducted a structural audit of the buildings, and later that evening, a meeting was held between KMC officials and the family members of Chal.

Adsul stated that the buildings in Kamgar Chal had become dangerous, citing an incident where a woman lost her life due to the collapse of a wall in Khasbag Maidan the previous week. In light of this, evacuation notices were given to the families, urging them to make a positive decision about the relocation. The KMC workers residing in the area were assured of receiving 270 sq ft houses in the new building, and the construction process would begin promptly.

KMC also made requests to MSEDCL and the water supply department to disconnect electricity and water supply to the Kamgar Chal buildings starting from August 1. However, the families residing there opposed this decision.

A resident from Kamgar Chal who worked in the KMC health department spoke anonymously, expressing concerns about the future of the place after they vacate it. They questioned whether a mall would be constructed on the site and raised doubts about the actual dangerous condition of the buildings. The resident insisted on having new houses built at the same location and vowed to oppose any attempts by KMC to relocate them to a distant part of the city.
