Karnataka's congress to launch Gruha Jyothi Scheme

The ruling congress in Karnataka has announced the upcoming launch of the Gruha Jyothi scheme, aimed at providing up to 200 units of free electricity to each residential household. The flagship program is scheduled for inauguration on August 5, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah officiating the event at NV Ground Kalaburgi, as revealed by Energy Minister KJ George during a curtain raiser press conference.

Notable dignitaries attending the launch include Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjuna Kharge, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, IT and BT, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, and other senior Cabinet members.

The Gruha Jyothi initiative promises to offer significant advantages, including reduced electricity expenses, an improved standard of living, household development, and sustainable prospects for the future. It is estimated that more than 14.2 million households will benefit from the scheme during its initial month of implementation in August. To avail of the benefits for the month of July, individuals had to apply before July 27. However, applicants can still apply at any time and receive the benefits starting from the subsequent months.

Among the 14.2 million applicants, approximately 18 lakhs applications were received from beneficiaries of existing schemes like Bhagya Jyothi, Kuteera Jyothi, and Amrut Jyothi, as confirmed by the Energy Minister.
