Kartell on display of Bergdorf Goodman windows on fifth avenue

The location provides the perfect setting for the design, quality, innovation and emotion that Kartell expresses through its products: the prestigious store sells only the coolest and trendiest names in international fashion. Each of the four windows surrounding the main entrance features a theme inspired by one of Kartell’s latest, most sustainable and most technologically innovative products, complemented by a clever selection of menswear items.

The Re-Transparency window

In this window display, a sky of fluffy clouds suggesting transparency and lightness forms the perfect background to Kartell products made from Polycarbonate 2.0, the new transparent material based on a second-generation renewable polymer made mainly from industrial cellulose and paper waste. A selection of Kartell’s signature products seems to float transparently in the air, creating an ethereal look. The impression is enhanced by a menswear suit made from a fabric printed with stylised flowers that reflect the softness of the clouds.

The A.I. Window

Philippe Starck’s famous A.I. chair, one of Kartell’s most easily recognised products, forms the central feature of this window display. The story behind the design is related by the voice of Starck himself, who explains the chair’s genesis and the choice of a recycled material, used for the very first time by Kartell in this product. The floral motifs of a rigorously masculine chemisier complement the chair’s most characteristic elements in a clear eulogy of nature and sustainability.

The smart wood window

Large letters reproducing the words “Smart Wood” fill this entire window as a fanfare to this all-wood Kartell collection. Smart Wood products are made using special, advanced technology to mould thin sheets of wood into shapes at the very limit of 3D and to create a rounded chair body that would previously have been thought impossible. The window conveys all the warmth and nobility of natural wood, a material that exudes emotion and never fails to surprise, just like the garments paired with it, whose natural colours use the tones of wood to create a timeless male elegance.

The Piuma window

The lightness of feathers floating on the breeze sets the scene for this window, which features Piero Lissoni’s Piuma chair against a highly evocative background. The display brings out the uniqueness of carbon fibre technology, which has permitted the creation of a chair weighing only 2.2 kg with a thickness of only a few millimetres. The same sense of lightness is conveyed by the casual menswear garments chosen as complements, which use printed fabrics to produce a summery look consistent with the theme of the display.
