Ahmedabad civic body releases percolation well guidelines

The Municipal Commissioner, M Thennarasan, recently issued guidelines to ensure the proper maintenance of percolation wells constructed on all commercial and residential properties.

The guidelines, issued by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on September 29, mandated that builders submit notarized undertakings guaranteeing the adequate maintenance of percolation wells, which are necessary for obtaining building use (BU) permission. Previously, the civic body had instructed builders to pay a deposit of Rs 75,000 for percolation wells when applying for BU permission.

According to the guidelines, officials are required to annually assess the functionality of percolation wells. They must submit a report and issue notices if a percolation well is found to be non-functional.
