Pettibone Re-Enters 15,000-Lb

With the introduction of its Extendo 1544X, Pettibone has re-entered the 15,000-pound lift-capacity class for its X-Series telehandlers.

According to Mitch Fedie, product manager, the business had retired its previous 15,000-pound model in 2015 after switching to Tier 4 Final engines, but there has been a demand for a greater capacity telehandler for oil and gas projects as well as commercial and residential development.

According to the manufacturer, the rough-terrain telehandler's lifting capacity makes it perfect for heavy-duty material handling on construction sites, pipe installation projects, and highway construction.

The 1544X has a forward reach of 29 feet and can raise objects up to 44 feet in the air. The maximum lift capacity is 10,000 pounds. It is powered by a Cummins turbo diesel engine with 117 horsepower. To provide the operator with unobstructed curbside views and a 19-inch ground clearance, Pettibone put the engine into a side pod. According to the business, the telehandler can operate at maximum capacity for a full day on a single tank of diesel.

Moreover, it sports a front axle limited-slip differential and four-wheel drive. In addition to forward and reverse, the Dana Powershift gearbox features three gears. According to Pettibone, the telehandler features two wheels, four wheels, and a crab steer and offers a tight turning radius of 11 feet 4 inches.

The new telehandler is designed on the same Pettibone X-Series platform as its smaller ones and weighs roughly 32,000 pounds, so parts are interchangeable. According to the manufacturer, it has a lightweight boom design with less wear, increased strength, and superior control and accuracy for positioning big loads. According to Pettibone, contact forces on wear pads are decreased, and the load on wear pads is reduced by half when an external, bottom-mounted extend cylinder is used.
