Five-year supply chain agreement between Maersk and Unipart

The Danish carrier has inked a five-year deal to be the lead logistics supplier for UK construction equipment maker JCB, which is the most obvious proof yet of Maersk's aspirations to enter the supply chain.

The contract, which The Loadstar states was formerly held by DHL Supply Chain, was split by JCB in an unusual move between Maersk and the UK's Unipart, which will run JCB's UK logistics facilities.

A 30-vehicle transport fleet, extra off-site UK warehousing and packing activities, the JCB World Logistics warehouse in Staffordshire, UK in-plant operations, a new warehouse management system, and more operations are among them.

When the five-year contract begins early in the following year, more than 400 former DHL employees will transition to Unipart Logistics.
