Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister, Shipping and Waterways said ship building and repair clusters will be set up in Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Gujarat, Goa,  Visakhapatnam, Andaman and Nicobar and Odisha ports. He said the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) plan will encompass building next generation mega ports in India. He listed Vadhavan and Tuna Tekra as key projects to support the IMEEC. The India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor was announced during the G-20 summit. India is working on a Rs.760 billion plan to develop Vadhavan port in Dahanu, Maharashtra, which has prospects of achieving throughput of 308 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in 2040.
