SUDA acquires land for ring road project

The Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA) received approval from Gujarat's chief town planner for its proposed Outer Ring Road project and the civic body is acquiring land for the same.

The proposed 66 km long and 90 metre wide Outer Ring Road project would be financed entirely by the civic body. The authority would spend Rs 5,796 crore on the project and expects to generate Rs 11,960 crore from the sale of FSI in five years. The framed regulations will be published under section 42 of the Town Planning Act in the next three months, said SUDA's senior town planner PK Dutta.

The proposed road will have 70 metre high skyscrapers, a high density 27-km-long corridor and later a high speed transit system -Metro.

The SUDA officials have made additional manpower allocation for the project which they want to complete by Diwali 2013.

About 0.6 floor space Index (FSI) will be free for the developers. They would be able to purchase FSI up to 4 by paying a premium of 40 per cent at the existing Jantri rates. The present plan will encourage development along the Outer Ring Road at a massive scale, reports indicate.
