Tripura unveils ambitious plan: 500 MW Solar Power by 2030

Tripura's Power Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, announced the state government's ambitious plan to produce around 500 megawatts of solar energy by 2030. The plan was unveiled alongside the 'Tripura Energy Vision 2030 Road Map.' This roadmap was developed through a study conducted in Tripura by the German-based organisation, Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur international Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), with assistance from The Research Triangle Institute India (RTI).

Minister Nath highlighted the government's commitment to enhancing electricity infrastructure and multiple development projects. The study focused on estimating the electricity demand in Tripura for 2030 and created a comprehensive roadmap encompassing short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals. The German Development Agency has been entrusted with the task of implementing this roadmap to ensure a steady supply of electricity in the future.

Emphasising the state's dedication to green and clean energy, Minister Nath stated that their primary objective is to meet the electricity needs by 2030. According to projections, around 692 megawatts of power will be required by that time, given the increasing daily demand. Currently, Tripura has 9.71 lakh consumers, and this number continues to rise.

The minister mentioned the significant progress in solar energy generation since 2018, with the capacity doubling from 6.4 to 12.54 megawatts. The plan is to further expand this capacity to 135 megawatts by 2025 and eventually reach the target of 500 megawatts by 2030. To achieve this, the government plans to extend the solar power reach to 1,158-gram panchayats and Village Committees. By reducing dependence on conventional power sources, the government aims to lower electricity tariffs and allocate thermal power plant-generated electricity for industrial development.

In conclusion, Tripura is proactively planning for a sustainable energy future, aiming to harness solar power to meet the increasing electricity demands while promoting green and clean energy sources.
