Maharashtra's electric vehicle power sales surge 216%

Electric vehicle (EV) power sales surged by 216% in ten months in Maharashtra, indicating a trend spreading across Indian states. From 4.56 million units in September 2022, sales soared to 14.44 million units in July 2023, according to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra.

MSEDCL, also known as Mahavitaran, oversees EV charging infrastructure across 3,214 public and private stations in the state, enabling consumption monitoring.

The state has witnessed a rapid rise in EV adoption, with vehicle numbers escalating from 4,643 in 2018 to 189,698 in 2022. As of March 31, 2023, Maharashtra boasted a total of 298,838 EVs, predominantly two-wheelers accounting for around 250,000 of them.
