INR 110 million to be invested in power distribution by AP government

With the backing of union government, the state government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to implement Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) into action with an investment of INR 110 million. The plan would increase operational effectiveness, eliminate losses, and strengthen the electricity distribution system.

K Vijayanand, Special Chief Secretary (Energy), addressed at Vidyut Soudha on the eve of the 74th Republic Day festivities. He stated that, the RDSS will greatly enhance the power utilities and aid in the provision of high-quality power to all categories of consumers. According to Vijayanand, the government is making special efforts to boost the state’s capacity for power production in order to guarantee a constant supply of electricity.

“Damodara Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station unit - III (800MW) inaugurated by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in October last year would become operational by February 2023 and will help meet the demand during summer. Another 800 MW units at Dr. Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station will be operational by May,” Vijayanand stated.

He further stated that APGENCO is installing two new units at Lower Sileru, each with a capacity expansion of 115 MW, as part of a green energy initiative. These units are anticipated to start producing power in July 2024.v To reinforce and maintain the free power supply to farmers for the ensuing 30 years, the government has struck an agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to acquire 7,000 MW of electricity. In the first phase, 3,000 MW will be available from September 2024," Vijayanand stated.
